Hold it straight between your forefinger and middle finger. Bring it down the side of your face and slide your fingers toward the tips of your hair until they are level with the place where the right side layer was cut. Use the scissors to trim the length of hair extending from your fingers. Trim the back sections.

How do you cut men's hair with scissors?
Part 2 Cutting Your Hair
Comb the hair around your ears and temple forward.
Lift the hair up with your comb or fingers.
Slide the comb (or your fingers) away from your head. ...
Cut the exposed hair, with your scissors perpendicular to the comb or your fingers. ...
Work your way up the sides to the parts.

Is it better to cut your hair wet or dry?
With it dry, the stylist can cut a shape that accounts for any little kinks or cowlicks, giving you more volume. Dry cutting also causes less damage to the hair, which allows you to go longer between haircuts. “The hair is elastic, so when you cut it wet, the ends can fray a little more,” said Arturo.20 Dec 2013

How do you cut long hair?
Method 6 Cutting a Front Ponytail
Ensure that your hair is clean, smooth and dry. ...
Tip your head upside down.
Brush your hair into a ponytail at the centre of your forehead. ...
Work out how long you want your first layer of hair to be. ...
Hold your ponytail firmly with one hand and cut it with the other.
http://www.wikihow.com/Cut-Your-Own-Long-Hair
Wash the hair. In the same way that an artist starts with a fresh canvas before painting, you want to start with clean hair before cutting. Hair that's dirty or full of product will not allow you to see a true finished product when your haircut is completed.
Use a shampoo and conditioner made for the specific hair type. There are products to fit every need--color-treated hair, dry hair, damaged hair, thinning hair and hair that lacks volume--so pick the one that's best based on hair type and needs.
If hair is prone to knots or tangles, use a de-tangling conditioner or spray on a de-tangling product. You don't want your comb to get stuck when you run it through hair that has mats or tangles.
http://www.wikihow.com/Cut-Hair
Coat your hairline, ears and neck before applying dye to your hair. You can use Vaseline, lip balm or the conditioner included in the kit (if one is provided). This step is optional, but applying this coating will make it easier to rinse off any dye that gets on your skin. Put on your gloves.
http://www.wikihow.com/Dye-Hair
How do you apply semi permanent hair color?
Part 3 Maintaining Your New Look
Minimize hair washing. Semi-permanent dye will fade more each time you wash your hair. ...
Use color-protecting shampoo. When you do wash your hair, be sure to use a shampoo that will minimize fade. ...
Keep your hair moisturized. Dry hair is more prone to fading. ...
Repeat dyeing as needed.
http://www.wikihow.com/Dye-Your-Hair-With-Semi-Permanent-Hair-Dye
Do you color your hair wet or dry?
The next time you color your hair wash your hair with a gentle bland shampoo and condition it. Towel dry until hair is just damp (not dripping wet) and then apply your color according to the instructions.
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Home-Hair-Coloring-What-The-Manufacturers-Wont-Tell-/10000000003826074/g.html
How long do you leave color on your hair?
Typically, with permanent color, the first 15 minutes provide time for the peroxide and ammonia to open the cuticle and penetrate into the cortex to lighten natural pigment. The final 15 – 30 minutes are for additional lightening and dye-molecule development to provide maximum deposit.

How can I temporarily dye my hair?
How to:
Pour your desired food color into a bowl.
You can dip your hair in it for about 10 minutes and let it air dry or if you want streaks or a hint of color, using a tooth brush or a hair coloring brush, brush it through your hair.
Blow dry you hair afterwards.
Do not wash your hair for at least twenty four hours.

8 tips to color your hair
http://www.sheknows.com/beauty-and-style/articles/804517/tips-for-coloring-your-hair-at-home

1.
Do-it-yourself: Essential oils are brilliant for giving your hair extra shine. Mix ylang ylang and jasmine together and smooth over your hair before bed. By morning you’ll see results!
Blessed with curly hair? “Mix your curling mousse with your conditioner and apply it to wet hair before styling. The cocktail of products gives sleeker, more controlled curls,”
2.
Pop a sea kelp tablet every day. They’re full of iodine, calcium and protein that will keep your hair in good condition and encourage healthy hair growth.
3.
Invest in a hair oil to shield your hair against harsh weather conditions. Super nourishing, they can be used as a frizz fighter on wet hair, a glossy finishing product on dry hair or even as an overnight treatment. Now that’s versatile!
4.
Go DIY for high shine. Mash some avocado with a dash of olive oil and stir into a paste. Apply it to damp hair, leave for 20 minutes, then rinse. You’ll be left with shiny, glossy hair.
5.
If you’ve got an unruly fringe that tends to fall flat after a few hours, change up your blow-dry! Instead of holding the nozzle of your hairdryer vertically above your fringe direct the airflow across to one side first and then to the other – this will give it lasting lift and movement.
6.
Yes purple-tinted shampoos stop blonde hair turning brassy but did you know they work on highlighted brown hair too? Use twice a week to stop the fade and keep colour looking fresh.
7.
Always, always use a heat protection spray. When you’re using hair tools and going from cold outdoor temperatures to centrally heated spaces, your hair’s cuticles are at risk of going wild and triggering frizz. Shield them from the elements first and you won’t have to worry!
8.
If you had dry skin, you’d moisturise it so if your hair is suffering from frazzled split ends, rehydrate it with a mask. It doesn’t matter how time poor you are, some only take two minutes to work their magic and can be applied in the shower so no excuses!
9.
Wearing your hair up can actually help to protect your hair from everyday wear and tear. Go for a plait or a bun where the majority of your hair stays close to your head and covered.
10.
Get to grips with rollers they’re the padded bras of hair styling! “It’s all about the direction you wind the hair around the roller,” advises Daniel Caceres, from the Trevor Sorbie Art Team. “If you want height around your hairline, place the roller in front of your hair and wind down. When you flick your hair back towards your crown you’ll have created twice the root lift.”
Letting your hair air-dry is great for its condition but not so good when the temperatures are dropping. Try switching to dry shampoo every other day to refresh and revive your hair.
11.
Choose your highlights wisely. Add scattered highlights in the summer which will look great in the sunshine and consider a block colour in winter. Ask for an all-over ammonia-free colour and it will actually help condition your hair, leaving it looking glossy, healthy and younger!
12.
Fine hair? Then try swapping your extra strength hairspray for a flexible hold one so that you can scrunch finer hair into shape.
13.
Did you know?
White vinegar helps to expand and plump up hair too! Apply some after conditioning and then rinse out after a couple of minutes. It will rid hair of excess build-up so you’ll be left with the best root boost you can get!
14.
At home, always dry your roots first – it will stop frizz from forming and use a barrel brush to get extra height in your hair.
15.
Break the six-week haircut cycle! By allowing your hair to grow that extra inch, your short crop could be transformed into a choppy layered bob that makes you look younger and suits your hair texture better.
16.
Did you know you can apply mousse to dry hair then re blow-dry to revitalise tired-looking hair?
17.
Make sure your hair is sopping wet when you wash it so you can really work your shampoo through the hair. Then ensure it’s fully rinsed out – if you don’t it will leave it dull and ironically, in need of a good wash!
18.
Nip frizz in the bud with some clear eyebrow gel! Lightly comb it through the roots to smooth flyaways at your parting without weighing down or soaking your hair.
19.
Make sure your brushes aren’t getting too hot under the dryer as that can damage and dry out hair further. Ceramic and ionic brushes are great for styling and smoothing but wooden brushes with boar bristles are more gentle and fab for fine hair.
20.
Try swapping your elastic hair band for a material hair tie when you wear your hair up. As well as protecting your hair from snagging, it prevents that obvious dent in your hair when you take out the band.
21.
Tailor your products to your hair type. If it’s coarse use conditioning products like regular masks and leave-in conditioners. If it’s soft and fine, choose mattifying products that will give your hair grip and texture.
22.
“Try not to let your hair dry naturally every day. Although it’s a preconceived idea that it’s the best way to look after your hair, it isn’t as the cuticles are left up and open – this makes the hair dry out and keeps the follicle exposed to the elements,”
23.
If you’re toying with the idea of a fringe, part your hair on the side then take a section and sweep it across to the opposite side, securing with a pin just above your ear. Ta-dah – an instant side fringe to help you decide if you could live with the look!
24.
Resist running your fingers through your hair if you suffer from frizz or have naturally curly hair – that and too much brushing will rough up the cuticles, causing them to swell outwards.
25.
A messy parting is a miracle worker. Along with disguising visible roots, it’s an instant volume booster as your hair falling in different directions will cleverly create more lift.
26.
Hats are essential in the winter because they trap in heat your hair will set in whatever shape it’s in so if you want volume, boost your roots big time before you put your headgear on and you won’t have to deal with limp hair when you take it off!
27.
Ask your hairdresser to help you out of your hair rut! “Look for hairdressers that say no! We keep a record of our clients’ past but tweak their cut or colour each visit to ensure their style is always evolving,”
